East Hanover Township School District Social, Emotional and Character Education
The East Hanover Township School District supports the social and emotional health of our students from the first day of preschool through our Board Member shadow program in eighth grade. The annual Night of Respect includes the entire East Hanover Township community in an evening of celebration of our efforts to create an inclusive community determined to provide a safe and secure environment for each and every student. Character education is infused throughout all curricular areas and extracurricular activities. Our district has been honored with several awards for our success in character education.

2016:Central Elementary School was named as a 2016 New Jersey School of Character by the New Jersey Alliance for Social, Emotional, and Character Development (NJASECD).
2014:East Hanover Middle School was named a New Jersey School of Character by the Character Education Partnership.
Frank J. Smith Elementary School was the Character Education Partnership 2014 Promising Practice award winner for '100 Acts of Character Club' program.Central Elementary School was awarded and recognized as a 2014 'No Place For Hate' School by the Anti-Defamation League2013:
East Hanover Middle School was awarded the National Schools of Character (NSOC) Promising Practice Award for their work, "Bystander-A Portrait of Apathy".
East Hanover Middle School was awarded Honorable Mention status in the State School of Character program by the Character Education Partnership.
East Hanover Middle School was selected to participate in Princeton University’s Roots Program.Central Elementary School received the "No Place to Hate" award from the Anti-Defamation League.
The East Hanover Township School District was honored to receive the New Jersey School Board Association’s School Leader Award for innovative efforts to identify and reduce Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying in schools.
East Hanover Middle School was recognized as an emerging school of character by the New Jersey Schools of Character program and Character Education Partnership.
Central Elementary School was awarded a 2012 Promising Practice citation.
2010 and 2011:Students from East Hanover Middle School won awards from the Wallenberg Foundation, which recognizes students who are motivated by compassion and act with courage in their service to others and by their work in promoting understanding, acceptance, tolerance, and peace.
